Phakic Intraocular Lenses came into their own with advanced customised designs allowing correction of severe or extreme shortsightedness and astigmatism in young patients not suitable for LASIK with improved safety and long term results.
Advances in optical diagnostics of the eye, micro incision lens removal combined with advanced accommodative and multifocal Intraocular Lenses give us the opportunity to restore the vision of a cataract patient to that of a normal young adult without spectacles. The safety and predictable results achieved with Advanced Refractive Cataract surgery is unparalleled in the history of modern surgery. We are part of the campaign to make these techniques available on the NHS as currently cataract patients in the NHS do not benefit from Advanced Refractive Cataract surgery.
The improved safety and predictability of Advanced Refractive Cataract surgery led to the development of Lens Exchange Surgery for patients older than 45, who do not have cataracts but use reading or varifocal spectacles. Technically the same procedure as Advanced Refractive Cataract surgery, typical Lens Exchange surgery patients see well enough to drive, compute and read without spectacles and will never need cataract surgery in the future.
